Treatments For Binge Eating Disorder

December 23rd, 2007 | by admin |

Food and Drug Association has approved Fluoxetine (Prozac) and Clomipramine (Anafranil) for binge eating children. A blood test makes it easier to decide which anti depressant to use. Otherwise, sometimes the side effects caused by these drugs may be serious. Since binge eating and depression are closely linked, these medications can serve as effective treatment.

SSRIs: Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, SNRIs: Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, NDRIs: Norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors, combined reuptake inhibitors and receptor blockers, and Tetracyclic antidepressants are the first preferred anti-depressants.

Second preference is given to tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), and least preferred are Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) with the reverse order of side effects.
